Shrub or small tree most often grown for its attractive red berries and reddish fall color. Small purple flowers in spring are followed by scarlet red fruit in fall which birds enjoy.
Culture:
Easily grown in average, medium wet, well-drained soil. Adaptable shrub which tolerates wide range of soils and full shade but will not tolerate wet, poorly-drained soil.
Use:
Effective in woodland gardens, native plant gardens, bird gardens or as an informal hedge or screen. Suckers to form a thicket or can be pruned as a single-stemmed tree.
