A reliable all-purpose shade tree which is pyramidal when young then develops a broad crown with ascending branches. The leaves are medium green. Fall foliage is a soft yellow. Birds and wildlife relish the small, round, orange-red or purple fleshy fruit that forms September-October.
Culture:
While the preferred planting site is in rich moist soil, this tree is very adaptable and will grow in a variety of soil and moisture conditions including dry soil and windy areas.
Use:
Use as a shade tree in large areas. This is a good substitute for disease-prone American Elms.
